The Best Day Of Baseball Nobody Ever Saw

"Childrens do learn," but network programmers apparently do not. Today was the best scenario a baseball fan could ask for. The last day of the season. Three teams vying for two spots. Three games. None of them on National TV.

Mets v. Marlins? Nope. Phillies v. Nationals? Nope. Diamondbacks v. Rockies? Same thing. All three games mattered, two of three were exciting. Yet unless you lived in one of those markets, you were relegated to watching the scores change on your computer screen.

What was ESPN thinking? TBS? Fox Sports? All three have a stake in MLB and the postseason, yet none of them showed these crucial games. ESPN had horse racing, TBS showed the Braves' meaningless game against the Astros, and Fox sports kept their games regional. Why wasn't there someone to step up and show these games? ESPN, broadcasting "Baseball Tonight" failed even further, waiting 15-minutes to let its viewers know that Colorado had beaten Arizona. Couldn't they cut into the Mets highlights that had happened 6 hours ago?

I know the NFL is king, and nobody would ever want to preempt that. But there's room for both. Today was a day that failed the sports fans of America.

Great point. I think when it's all said and done, the reason no baseball was shown today was that plans had been made and the decision makers at the networks didn't want to rock the boat. Either that or the decision makers were home for the weekend and their mininons didn't want to take the heat for making a decision by themselves.

i agree 100%. it's sad how far baseball has fallen in the past 4 or 5 years. the NLCS won't even be on broadcast TV this year; TBS has it. that's pretty sad if you ask me. i know almost everyone has cable these days, so it's not like hundreds of millions of fans are being left out in the cold, but still... FOX is basically saying, "if it doesn't involve the red sox or yankees, it's not worth our airtime." fuck that. thanks, baseball players, for taking steroids and disenchanting the public. (at least that's my theory as to why baseball ratings are falling. and if it's the case, how come the NFL isn't suffering similarly? sometimes the sporting world just isn't fair.)

i was tired of dealing with this same issue year after year so this season i sucked it up and got the MLB package...sucks that i need to spend that money in order to see important games but i'm sick of relying on the networks to actually give fans what they want..

also, the playoffs on TBS? who's annoucing--Zack Morris and the fat black guy from that show they promote 50x timeas an hour?

TBS will do a fantastic job, far better than ESPN could have ever dreamed, which will prove to any remaining baseball fans who look to the four letter for news, that ESPN is completely uneccessary.

ESPN only had the rights to show games Sunday, and they have already made the decision not to promote post-season, as they dont have the rights to any of the games.

Next year TBS will drop the Braves and have a Game of the Week on Sunday afternoons.

TBS was in HD yesterday for the Braves game and looked 100x better than any HD on ESPN. Just a shame they will haves lousy announcers like Chip Caray and Tony Gwynn.

I at minimum was able to see the Mets game. But would have loved to be able to throw the Rockies game on and was searching for it in the 7th inning. I wouldn't really kill Baseball Tonight though, it really didn't matter regardless. And I don't know if they had legal license to go to the game live.

On TBS doing a better job, half your cable companies may not have TBS HD by Wednesday...

Suck it up and get the MLB package. I was happily flipping back and forth between all of the games on my TV. At the very least get your lame ass to a sports bar to watch the out-of-town games.
